How to Prepare for a Successful Remodeling, Renovation, or Custom Building Project

Define What You Want

• Identify the problems you have with your current home. Is it too small? Does it look outdated? Is there inefficient utilization of space and energy?
• Identify what you wish you could do in your home. Do you wish you had inviting spaces for your family to gather? Do you need a peaceful place to work? Do you love to entertain? Do you want a comfortable place for overnight guests?
• Make a list of your needs, wants, and priorities to share with your builder.
• Think about what you want to invest.
• Be realistic and flexible in your expectations of what your budget can accomplish.

Choose the Right Builder

• One of the most important decisions you make is selecting the right contractor. Look for one that not only does the quality work you expect, but also someone you can trust and with whom you can feel comfortable. Communicate

• Share your ideas, needs, wants, and priorities with your builder. Together you can explore your options and develop the best solution for you.
• You should be able to talk with your builder openly and honestly. Your builder cannot address your concerns if you don’t express them.
• Listen to your builder, especially when it comes to deadlines for product selections. This will help your project stay on schedule.
